A visit to Jakarta International Korean School (JIKS)
“Here I felt even more proud of and also the greatness our country. The marines and other branches of military will guard our country so that you can be happier for and prouder of The Republic of Korea“.
Hyun Bin, who is visiting Indonesia in his capacity as the Military Public Relations Ambassador met with students at Jakarta International Korean School (JIKS) for a meaningful albeit a short moment.
JIKS hoped to have Hyun Bin’s visit happen because the school felt that for the students who are studying overseas, seeing Hyun Bin, who is a Hallyu star, serve the country would be a source of strength.
From elementary school to high school, the students were gathered in the auditorium and were clearly ecstatic to have Hyun Bin meet them as ‘Private First Class Kim Tae Pyung of the Marine Corp’.
Hyun Bin was asked, “How different is life as actor Hyun Bin and soldier Hyun Bin?” to which he answered, “it’s difficult. Right now, I think is the time to take a step away from where I was and really look at myself”.
Hyun Bin Added, “I am able to see things that I may have done wrong or didn’t know so when I am done with my military service, I should be able to meet you a firmer and better version of myself”.
Some of the students asked, “Give advise to some of us who will be joining the military in a few years” and Hyun Bin answered, “Time and pain you go through (in the military) will help you improve yourself. Don’t think of it as a waste of time or that you don’t want to go but think of it in a positive light that it is a time that you can invest in yourself”.
Hyun Bin told the students as a good bye, “I will carry out my duties to the best of my abilities for the next year and 9 months, so you guys can concentrate on your studies. When my time is up and go back to being an actor, I will come back to you to help spread the rich culture and hanryu.”.
The students gave Hyun Bin personally created letters and paintings. Hyun Bin in turn gave the school the book ‘I am a marine’ which describes the training the process that he and his colleagues went through and ’60 years of Marine History’.
Hyun Bin had been present at the celebration of the 66th years of Indonesian Military where President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was also present and on October 6th, Hyun Bin will be visiting the Marine Command.
